UMK 2013 - HEAT ONE LIVE

Join me tonight for a live coverage of the first heat of UMK 2013. Six artists will be on stage, voted by the jury and the public for the first time. Two will secure a place in the final, one will be sent home. The others will still have hope alive to get the final ticket from the semifinal. Anssi Kela is the guest star tonight.
Coming live from the sold out Circus in Helsinki. Watch it live here from 19.45 CET.

19.40 The backstage UMK+ has just started. With a black screen and nonsense talking. Apparently eveything's not working out as it should have :-)
19.45 Ok, it all restarted with the view, too. Maybe it was better without. The presenters Ile & Anni are now interviewed and they confess being a bit nervous. Then they go and chat with Diandra, who sits in the make-up. She tells what she's been up to since presenting the demoversion to the judges. Mert Otsamo who designed her dress and Ville who takes care of her make-up and hair had a chance to wave, too. She says she's not sure her entry will be included in her new album....Then they talk with Anssi Kela and this blogger wonders why he's here? Ah, to promote his new single and album. Of course. And he has courage to say he has never watched any UMK episodes... Oh well. Then we chat with Rautakoura, who come across as boring as always. But now it's time to drop this plus from UMK and get to the business itself!

20.01 Here we go! The stage is simple and rather small, but this is a nightclub after all. The look is already familiar from the earlier presentation shows. The judges are presented and they are familiar already as well, their vote counts 50% tonight, the other half is the televote. The voting is already open. And without further a do it's time for Iina!

Iina Salin - Last night
Iina is dressed in golden minidress and sport wild blond curls. She has her three backing boys as well with their funny choreography. A good act, she sings well. Me likes. Toni Wirtanen liked it, too. Aija agrees it was much better than before, especially stage presense and the production. Tomi agrees the song is better and so is the presentation, maybe even more contact with the audience though.  And Redrama agrees with all the others. Judges like, I like... but will televoters like it?
Last Panda - Saturday night forever
The boys have changed their look and really look good tonight, very fitting to the song. And it's much, much more energetic than in the presentation show.  Aija says they look great and the live audience set them on fire. A little critic on vocals though. Tomi agrees they need live audience to show what they've got. Redrama praises their interaction with the public and Toni liked this already before. The reproduction has highlighted the chorus and it sounds much better. Well done Pandas!
Mikael Saari - We should be through
He's left the pullover home and dressed in a smart suit, with live musicians on stage and sings very well. The first presentation was so magical it's hard to top that but this is so good anyways! Maybe not so intense but good. Applauses during the song, and a huge one after. Great stuff indeed! Tomi confesses he didn't get this song at first, but has now had a complete change of heart, worh cold shivers all over his body. Redrama says he has nothing to better, it's perfect as it is. And he should never change. Toni agrees with Tomi, he has changed his mind about this and loves it now. He warns him not to get too proud and lose it. Aija continues praising him. So, the judges love him, so do I. Soon we will know if the televoters agree....
Ilari Hämäläinen - Sytytä mut vaan
The rockshow on stage and a lot of long hair. I must admit I still don't care much for this. THis is supposed to be funny (with lyrics) but I find it only rather stupid. Maybe I don't have sense of humor then.  Obvisously this works much better on stage than only hearing it but still... Quite entertaining, but that's it for me. Redrama says it's energetic, good singer but he just doesn't like this song, he has tried but no. I agree. Toni says they look good, girls like it but... Aija also praises the group and his singing. Tomi who insisted having this in top-12 doesn't seem to be sure anymore either. Hmm, no votes from judges here me thinks.....

Rautakoura - Ilmalaivalla
Ok, this was much better than before. On the other hand the presentation gig was so bad it's hard not to do this better. Still I find this annoying and totally unsuitable for Euroviison. These guys would pee their pants on stage in Malmö. Not for me. The audience went quite wild though. Toni is a bit confused as well. He thinks this is maybe the best song here but the band is so unsexy it hurts. Aija wonders their success in Circus as well and they have improved a lot. Tomi says this is music for mothers who were ready to throw their undies to the stage, against all odds. He thinks they finally shined on stage. Redrama likes the song and says they have improved hugely. Hmm, I'm afraid now. They might be the shocker qualifier here tonight?
Diandra - Colliding into you
Totally new look for Diandra, and she even has two male dancers on stage. Not sure if they add to the song but at this point they will do. Diandra sings well for sure.  Aija likes her hair and look and thinks it fits her well. She also likes the re-production and her concentration on stage. And yet she is sweet. Tomi states she is a pre-contest favorite and wonders if it gives her extra pressure. Tomi praises her voice and has even learned to like the song. He wasn't sure about the dancers and thinks she will go far. Toni says they all thought she would walk this but it isn't so sure anymore, she has to fight and work for it and she says she will.

Now we have a ittle break and the show continues after the break. You can follow the backstage in UMK+ in YLE Areena though....where Iina and Ilari are being interviewed. The host asks them to do a duet; rock cock and soul sister. Then he's off to Last Pandas and asks why they have a such a sad name and where is the famous Panda eyes? (They might return on later stage). Then some talk about reindeers and how proud they are to represent Lapland and the northern Finland. And next we have Mikael Saari, Finland's Adele (??). Mikael tells this is not about his ex and it's not about his own life. Ok. And then we have Max Perttula, a guy who invents perfumes.... And that has to do with UMK?

21.05 We are back. The voting is still on and here comes another recap. And then the judges give their votes.... Toni gives full points to MIkael. So does Aija! Also Tomi gives highest points to Mikael! And finally so does Redrama....

Jury votes: Mikael 38, Diandra 32, Iina 29, Last Panda 27, Rautakoura 26, Ilari 21

21.15 The voting is now closed. Anssi Kela takes the stage.... So it looks like Mikael and Diandra will make the final as I believe they both get also a lot of televotes. Ilari will most likely be kicked out tonight as I suspect Rautakoira will get more votes from the public. But let's wait and see....

Last Pandas to the semifinal.... Iina Salin to the semifinal.... MIkael Saari to the final.... Diandra Flores to the final... Ilari Hämäläinen out and so Rautakoura to the semifinal. So, all in all it all went as I suspected and believed. :-)

ESC 2016 WISH LIST: MARGARET FOR POLAND

Małgorzata Jamroży aka Margaret has also been tipped for Eurovision and apparently she did turn it down but she'd be perfect. She's got a look and persona you can't unnotice nor forget, she's got hit songs, she has been voted or nominated for everything from Trendy artist to the Hope of the Year, Fashion Icon and Glamour Woman of the year besides the usual best video, song, album, debut..... Oh she's also a fashion designer! She's very clever with social medias and would surely use it to her advantage if selected for Stockholm 2016. Her debut album is titled Add the blonde , do we need to say more? Except it includes mostly Swedish written pop tunes like Tell me how are ya , Wasted , Start a fire and Heartbeat . And of course her debut single and internationally noticed Thank you very much that you can enjoy below with all its anti-textil feel. I think she's Eurovision perfection, she's cheeky and fun, can we have her?

SONGS OF THE YEAR 2015: #5 KRISTA SIEGFRIDS - ON & OFF

Krista Siegfrids is delivering nice pop tunes one after another and this one is particularly catchy and soon you will be singing along..... Hopefully her Melodifestivalen entry will be equally good!

ESC 2013: SERBIA'S BIG GUNS

Serbia is one of the most succesful Eurovision countries in the recent years and this blogger 's favorites. This year I am again very curiously waiting for their entry and what they will offer us when they have a national final once again after last year's internal selection. Many bigger and smaller names have been rumored to have sent a song, or have confirmed so themselves. Among then a 63-year-old disco diva Neda Ukraden , Eurovision veteran Vukašin Brajić 's OT Band, Danijel Pavlovic who is Marija Serifovic's step-brother, national final veteran Ana Nikolic and other names like Nenad Cvijetic , Dejan Petrovic, Zejna , Ivana Pavkovic , Vanja Mijatovic .... Let's see who really are in when the final 15 out of 80 will be announced for the March 2, 2013 final. These 15 will be cut to five for the superfinal by televoting. Then we have Bojan Bjelic , who apparently was sending his song Mora before he decided not to blaming the contest is fixed and Serbian

Summer songs: Samantha Fox & Sabrina - Call me

Summertime is the time for cover versions and remixes. The late 1980's war of the boombs is over when Samantha and Sabrina put their bras together and cover Blondie's Call me in peace and harmony. Amore, chiamami!

GOODBYE, FAREWELL...

The time has come. After all these years, 5,7 million visits, 12.000 articles I guess the time has come. As much as I love and care for Eurovision it just doesn't feel the same. The Corona years took their toll and the past two years and certain decisions have helped me to mature the idea that next year I will hear the songs for the first time in semi-final just like any so called local.  The bubble has burst. Add the toxicity in social medias and fandom. The arrogant teenagers who saw their first contest somewhere 2017 or even 2021 who think they know it all and only their opinion matters. Did I mention the toxic atmosphere on social medias? I'm too old for that sh*t. It's been a long ride that took me to various Eurovision on spot as a fan and tourist,  as a journalist, as a delegation member. I met some great people, made memories of lifetime. In stressful, sad periods of my life this blog has been my safe place, a place to escape and forget everything else for an hour o

ESC 2016 BELARUS: NAKED WITH WOLVES?

Today's funniest Eurovision related story comes from Belarus. Some sources claim Ivan wants to perform on stage naked and with live wolf or wolves. It surely would be a first on Eurovision stage! We have seen some forgotten underwear over the years, and some cardbox animals though..... Is it time to take things a bit further?  No, according the rules live animals are not allowed, and Eurovision being a family show nudity won't do either. (It seems to be ok to be half naked if you are a dancer though..... )

Blogilkar Exclusive: RAMBO AMADEUS INTERVIEW

My flying reporter Robert met Rambo Amadeus in his hotel this morning and what an interesting and entertaining meet it was! Unfortunately the time wasn't enough as this man has lots to tell about many topics. However, here are the main things! Thank you Rambo for this interview and first of all, how an earth Montenegro wanted you to represent them in Eurovision? I don't know! I really don't know. I didn't want to ask any questions why they wanted me. So they came to you, you didn't go to them? Of course. Everybody comes to me..... And everybody knows you and that you are bit, maybe a lot, Eurovision skeptic. Why did they come to you then? Well, I think they want the audience to pay attention to them? I think the new, young and ambitious director of RTCG decided to do some kind of shock therapy. He probably thinks there's nothing to lose. I asked him "Are you sure? Do you know my work?" and he said yes. I think they are learning how to g

Et voilà! Anggun presents Echo (You and I)

So today we finally heard the French entry in Eurovision 2012 in Baku by Anggun. Echo (You and I ) is rather bizarre mix of many things and just when you think you get it the songs takes a turn to another direction. Whistling all along. Very catchy it is. Call it an earworm if you want. Still I wouldn't scream a winning entry but... we will see. In Patricia Kaas like ending me thinks.

Blogilkar exclusive: PASHA PARFENI INTERVIEW

My flying reporter Robert managed to get hold on Pasha Parfeni from Moldova today who has become during this week pretty big favorite to do well. How did he end up in Eurovision, what his goals are and is his granny better than the ones from Buranovo? And will we get a cover album full of Eurovision later on? Find it out here: Why do you want to participate in Eurovision? That's a very difficult question... I want to be a star! A worldstar, ha ha! But I know it's not easy even in Eurovision, only Celine Dion and ABBA have made it. But I can make myself a bit more known, it's good for promotion. After Eurovision I will finish my album and my promo-CD already has nine songs. We will recod maybe 4-5 more and it will make a good album. With what result will you be happy here? Happy? … Top-10! Then I'll be absolutely happy! So if you don't get to the final you will be totally depressed? Yes, maybe... Yes, it would be hard. For me and my team. What are y

REMEMBERING MARILYN MONROE

It's 50 years since Marilyn Monroe passed away on August 5, 1962. Her legend still lives on and there's no doubt she got "it". Probably very much misunderstood and surely underrated she remains one of the biggest stars on this planet ever. How many fans have really seen her movies, I mean all of them? Not only the 2-3 most successful ones where she played pretty much the same dumb blond? Thee's so much more to her if you watch all her work.... And had she lived. She would be 86 now.  Like this .
